At Remsen Street Psychotherapy, we are committed to providing evidence-based treatment - treatment that works. Below, please find the specialities we see and work with most often, and the modalities we use to treat them.
SPECIALTIES
Anxiety
A healthy level of anxiety can motivate us, sparking excitement and determination. But when anxiety becomes fear and constant worry, it can feel overwhelming. Therapy provides a space to recognize and work through these feelings, helping you regain balance and confidence.
Depression
Persistent sadness can leave us feeling hopeless, disconnected, and unable to find joy in life. Therapy offers support in uncovering the roots of these feelings and taking meaningful steps toward reconnecting with yourself and the things that matter to you.
Relationship Issues
Supportive, secure relationships empower us to pursue our goals and take chances. Together, we will explore what healthy relationships look like for you and break unhelpful patterns that may be holding you back.
Stress and trauma
Trauma—whether large or small—can continue to shape our lives in subtle and challenging ways. With care and sensitivity, I will help you explore these experiences and understand how they might still be influencing you today.
Motivation
At times, motivation wanes, leaving us feeling stuck or disconnected. Through therapy, we will clarify your values, rediscover your passions, and reignite your inspiration, helping you move forward with purpose.
Career/work stress
Work plays a major role in our lives, but it can also be a significant source of stress—whether from workplace dynamics, systemic issues, or dissatisfaction with your role. I can help you navigate these challenges and find practical solutions.
Life Transitions
Transitions—whether planned or unexpected—can feel daunting, especially when the path ahead is unclear. In therapy, I will support you through these changes, helping you navigate uncertainty and step into your next chapter with greater ease.
modalities
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify patterns in thinking and behavior that are causing problems in your life and figure out how to change things in order to have a different outcome. This involves identifying thoughts, emotions, and beliefs you might hold about the world and providing concrete tools to manage them.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) was developed to help people struggling with extremely volatile and intense emotions, challenging interpersonal relationships, suicidal thoughts, and impulsive behavior. DBT treatment for clients consists of individual therapy, skills training, and phone coaching aimed at better understanding emotions and behaviors that are causing problems in people's lives and providing tools to better manage them.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a form of short-term therapy that aims to improve couple relationships by rekindling the physical and emotional bond that can get sacrificed to disappointment in a partner and alienation from them, a common dynamic in distressed couples. Drawing on research supporting attachment theory, the therapy regards the security of partner connection as the best lever for change in a dysfunctional relationship and a necessary source of both couple and individual growth.
Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough evaluation of the couple’s relationship, and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory. The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.
